The June long weekend is expected to see some good crowds arrive in the area with a promising start to the ski season. Cooma is going to be ready to welcome our visitors to town with the launch of the “Winter Starts Here” campaign.
The campaign has been brought together by the Cooma Chamber of Commerce and the Snowy Monaro Regional Council along with significant funding provided by the NSW Department of Industry under the Future Towns Program. Chamber president Kathy Kelly explains that “We are asking our local shops to light up their windows and decorate them in a winter theme around snowmen and snowflakes. Many shops have already come on board however to make a real impression we are hoping a lot more will contribute.” Snowmen bunting is currently being printed locally and will be available for businesses to purchase and display in their shop windows, business are encouraged to contact the Chambers Executive Officer Karen McGufficke to purchase. Additionally the Chamber is funding the purchase and installation of icicle lights to be installed on shop awnings. For shops in Sharp Street from Betta Electrical through to the Lott this will be provided regardless of whether the businesses are chamber members.
The Red Energy light up campaign will also be launched on the June long weekend and the combination of the Chamber/Council initiative along with the Red Energy lighting should make a big impact.
So welcome in “winter starts here” and welcome to our tourists to enjoy our great town.
